BIOGRAPHY
Fernando’s musical journey began in Mexico, where he studied classical and flamenco guitar with the prestigious maestro Fernando Martinez Peralta. In 2003, he moved to Canada, where he studied classical guitar with Stephen Boswell and completed the Capilano College Music Diploma Program. There, he earned first place in the annual Music Competition in 2005 and second place in 2006. Fernando then studied at the University of British Columbia (UBC) under the guidance of Michael Strutt, obtaining his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance in 2008.
Fernando has taken numerous master classes in classical and flamenco guitar with renowned guitarists, including Oscar Herrero (San Lorenzo del Escorial, Spain, 2011), Jeffrey McFadden and Andrew Zohn (UBC, 2007), Rafael Andujar (Centro Internacional de las Artes, Mexico City, 1997), and Antonio Arnal (Villa de Panticosa, Spain, 1995).
Fernando has performed extensively, both solo and in a duo with his twin brother Alonso Aguirre. Past performances include touring with his twin brother at the “Cervantes en Todas Partes” festival in Guanajuato, Mexico; performing with “Cuadro Flamenco” at the “Teatro Angela Peralta” in Mazatlán, Mexico; presenting “Concierto de Aranjuez” by Joaquín Rodrigo with the Ambleside Orchestra in North Vancouver; and a special feature concert of the UBC String Department at the Chan Shun Concert Hall in Vancouver. In 2023, Fernando was invited to participate in 'Let's Celebrate Together - Part 4' presented by the Richmond Arts Coalition.
Fernando plays flamenco guitars handcrafted by Jeff Sigurdson, Salvador Castillo, Hermanos Conde, and Pedro de Miguel, as well as a classical guitar built by Ricardo Sanchis Carpio.
